As part of Indus AI Week, students at Mountain Land School in Danyore, Gilgit experienced an immersive window into the world of artificial intelligence. AI expert Munira Akash led an in-person session on Careers in AI, highlighting emerging roles, critical skills, and the expanding opportunities within the digital economy. Organized by the Gilgit Baltistan Software Houses Association (GBSHA) in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), the session underscored a key insight: the AI journey begins with awareness, and schools are the starting point for cultivating that understanding.

The series continued with an engaging session at Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit, organized by GBSHA in partnership with Agha Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP), Accelerate Prosperity, and SCO. The session, titled “AI for Everyone,” attracted 174 students representing diverse academic backgrounds, with an inclusive mix of female and male participants. Discussions focused on making AI accessible and understandable, emphasizing its ethical use, practical applications, and the emerging career opportunities across multiple sectors.

Interactive exchanges during the sessions encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, reinforcing the importance of inclusive AI education. Participants were introduced to concepts that demonstrated how artificial intelligence is shaping industries and the broader digital economy. By fostering early awareness and skill-building, these initiatives aim to empower the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan to actively participate in the growing AI ecosystem.

The sessions are part of a broader initiative led by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Pakistan and PSEB to promote AI literacy and career development in educational institutions across the region. By connecting students with experts and providing hands-on insights, Indus AI Week aims to cultivate the next generation of AI professionals ready to contribute to Pakistan’s digital future.
