Zong has launched Z HomeFi, Pakistan’s first fifth generation Fixed Wireless Access home broadband service, marking a significant step in the operator’s strategy to extend fifth generation technology beyond the smartphone and into Pakistani households. The service removes the need for fibre installation, fixed-line infrastructure, and complex setup procedures, replacing them with a plug-and-connect fifth generation indoor Customer Premises Equipment device priced at Pakistani Rupees 22,000 that gives households immediate access to high-speed home broadband without the delays and logistics associated with fibre-based alternatives. The launch reinforces Zong’s position as the operator furthest along in translating Pakistan’s fifth generation spectrum auction into commercially available next-generation services for everyday consumers.

Z HomeFi is currently available across Pakistan’s top ten cities and is offered through 12 prepaid bundles designed to serve a range of household budgets and usage profiles. Monthly data allowances span from 100 gigabytes to 500 gigabytes, with speeds ranging from 10 megabits per second to 50 megabits per second, covering everything from everyday browsing and social media to streaming, remote working, and online learning. Pricing runs from Pakistani Rupees 4,500 to Pakistani Rupees 11,000 per month inclusive of taxes, a range that the company has calibrated to make fifth generation home broadband accessible to a significantly broader segment of the population than traditional fibre plans have typically reached. The service is currently available exclusively through Zong Customer Service Centres, with plans to extend availability to franchise outlets in the coming months as the rollout matures.

Commenting on the launch, Zong Head of Marketing Sajid Munir stated that the true value of technology is measured by how it improves people’s everyday lives, adding that Z HomeFi brings fifth generation technology directly into Pakistani homes with a reliable and convenient broadband experience that gives households greater flexibility and seamless access to the digital experiences that matter most. The statement reflects Zong’s broader commercial philosophy of moving from connectivity provider to technology services enterprise, embedding fifth generation capability into products that address concrete household needs rather than positioning it as an abstract network upgrade.

The launch of Z HomeFi carries meaningful implications for Pakistan’s home broadband market, where fixed fibre penetration has remained limited despite sustained investment by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited and other operators. Fixed Wireless Access, which delivers broadband over mobile spectrum rather than physical cables, has emerged globally as one of the fastest-growing broadband categories precisely because it addresses the deployment cost and timeline challenges that have made fibre rollout slow in densely built or geographically challenging areas. For Pakistan, where PTCL has set a target of expanding fibre connectivity to ten million homes but currently serves approximately 1.7 million, a credible fifth generation Fixed Wireless Access product from the country’s leading fifth generation operator introduces a competitive alternative that could accelerate the broader home broadband market well ahead of fibre infrastructure catching up to demand.
