Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, held a high-level consultative meeting with the leadership of Hannwave Limited to explore collaboration opportunities within Pakistan’s telecommunications sector. The engagement brought together senior representatives from both sides to discuss strategic priorities aligned with the country’s digital agenda and the evolving requirements of next generation connectivity. The meeting underscored the government’s continued outreach to global technology and infrastructure players as Pakistan advances toward modernizing its telecom ecosystem and expanding digital access nationwide.

During the discussions, both sides aligned on the significance of the upcoming 5G spectrum auction and its role in accelerating digital transformation across Pakistan. The minister highlighted that 5G is expected to support new use cases across industry, public services, and consumer applications, making it a central pillar of national connectivity planning. Hannwave Limited leadership shared perspectives on how global telecom infrastructure providers can support network readiness, capacity expansion, and technology upgrades as operators prepare for the next phase of mobile broadband. The dialogue reflected a shared understanding that timely spectrum allocation, supported by reliable infrastructure and equipment availability, will be essential to ensuring sustainable rollout and service quality.

Investment opportunities in Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure formed another key area of engagement. The meeting explored how international firms like Hannwave Limited could participate in strengthening network backhaul, transmission systems, and related components critical for advanced mobile networks. Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the importance of attracting long term investment that contributes not only to network expansion but also to skill development and technology transfer. In this context, discussions also focused on encouraging indigenous equipment manufacturing as part of the broader 5G rollout strategy. Both sides examined the potential for establishing local production facilities that could support domestic demand while reducing reliance on imports, enhancing supply chain resilience, and supporting economic activity within the country.

The possibility of strengthening Pakistan’s domestic supply chain and advancing technology self reliance was discussed as a strategic priority. Local manufacturing and assembly were identified as mechanisms to create employment, improve response times for network deployment, and align with global best practices in telecom industrial policy. Hannwave Limited representatives reviewed potential models for collaboration that could integrate local partners, academic institutions, and technology providers. The minister reiterated that Pakistan’s policy environment is increasingly focused on facilitating such partnerships through regulatory support and investment friendly measures, while ensuring alignment with national security and quality standards overseen by PTA: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

The engagement reflects Pakistan’s broader commitment to building a resilient and competitive telecom ecosystem that supports innovation, local industry participation, and long term digital growth. Strategic partnerships with international technology firms are viewed as essential to delivering reliable connectivity and preparing the country for emerging technologies tied to 5G and beyond. Through consultative engagements like this meeting with Hannwave Limited, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication continues to position Pakistan as a viable destination for telecom investment while advancing the objectives of Digital Pakistan through collaboration, infrastructure development, and technology driven progress.
