University of Karachi (KU) is set to pioneer artificial intelligence (AI) education in Pakistan by launching a four-year Bachelor’s degree program in AI under the Department of Computer Science.
The proposal for the new program has been approved by the Board of Faculty (Faculty of Science) and the Board of Studies in the Department of Computer Science. It is now awaiting final approval from the Academic Council, which is scheduled to meet on December 3rd.
Once approved, the university will begin accepting applications for the next academic session. The specific admission criteria and number of seats are yet to be finalized.
Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Vice Chancellor of KU, emphasized the university’s commitment to providing quality education in cutting-edge fields. He stated that the AI program has been carefully designed to meet the evolving needs of the industry and society.
Dr. Sadiq Ali Khan, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science, highlighted that the AI curriculum is aligned with the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) guidelines. The department is also investing in modern infrastructure, with two state-of-the-art interactive smart classrooms nearing completion.
By launching this innovative program, KU aims to produce skilled AI professionals who can contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s tech industry and address the increasing demand for AI talent.
