Epic Games has officially confirmed that the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts collaboration is coming to Fortnite this week, bringing protagonist Sora into the battle royale game alongside new crossover content. The collaboration is part of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, known as Override, which has focused heavily on gaming franchises and crossover content. Epic confirmed the arrival through its official social media channels, following months of anticipation and earlier reports surrounding the collaboration. Sora will appear in Fortnite wearing his classic Kingdom Hearts 2-inspired outfit, giving players a version of the character adapted to the game’s visual style. The crossover is scheduled to arrive on September 17, with the update expected to become available after scheduled downtime.
Sora is not the only Kingdom Hearts character associated with the upcoming crossover. Epic has also posted references to Riku, Kairi and Roxas through quotes from the franchise, indicating that the characters are expected to be part of the collaboration. While Epic has confirmed Sora directly, details about the availability, outfits and unlock methods for the other characters have not been fully disclosed. The official teasers have nevertheless given players an indication that the crossover could feature several recognizable characters rather than being limited to a single Sora cosmetic. This follows Fortnite’s established approach of bringing characters from major gaming franchises into the island, allowing players to use familiar characters from outside the Fortnite universe.
The collaboration will also introduce the Kingdom Key, Sora’s iconic Keyblade, into the Fortnite experience. Epic’s presentation of the weapon gives it a Fortnite-specific design detail, replacing the traditional Mickey Mouse keychain associated with the Kingdom Hearts Keyblade with a Fortnite Supply Llama. The Kingdom Key has been identified as part of the season’s Mythic weapon lineup, although some early reports had described uncertainty around whether it would function only as a cosmetic pickaxe or also as an in-game weapon. The crossover is therefore expected to give players more than a character skin, connecting Sora and his signature weapon with the gameplay of the current Fortnite season.
The Kingdom Hearts crossover continues the gaming-focused direction of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, which launched on August 20 and has already featured collaborations and references involving franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter, Mega Man and Tetris. The current season is scheduled to continue through the end of October, followed by Fortnite’s annual Halloween-themed Fortnitemares event. Epic has also teased other upcoming gaming collaborations, although their exact release schedules remain subject to change. For Kingdom Hearts fans, the arrival of Sora marks the latest expansion of the franchise into a major crossover platform, while Fortnite players will gain another recognizable character and themed content when the September 17 update goes live.
