Bahria University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AZM Foundation to advance climate finance research, institutional collaboration and sustainable development in Pakistan. The university announced the agreement on its official page, where it described the aims of the partnership in three areas, which are research on climate finance, cooperation between the institutions and support for sustainable development. The memorandum gives the university and the foundation a formal basis on which to work together, and it places the focus on climate finance, which deals with the way that money is raised and used to address the effects of climate change.
The partnership will be carried out through the Center of Research Excellence in Climate Finance (CORE-CF) and Bahria Business School. According to the university, it will promote joint research, capacity building and innovative solutions for climate resilience. Joint research allows the two organizations to study questions about climate finance together, while capacity building refers to the training of people and institutions so that they can work on these questions with more skill. The involvement of the business school alongside a dedicated research center shows that the agreement draws on the academic strengths of the university in both finance and research.
The announcement identifies Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, Climate Action, as the relevant goal for the partnership. SDG 13 is one of the global goals that call for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, and by linking the memorandum to it, the university has placed the cooperation within an international framework for development. The announcement also refers to climate resilience, which concerns the ability of communities and institutions to prepare for and recover from the effects of climate change, and it names innovative solutions as one of the intended results of the work of the partners.
The post was shared with hashtags that include BahriaUniversity, CORECF, AZMFoundation, ClimateFinance and ClimateAction. These tags identify the institutions and the subject of the agreement, and they point to climate finance as the main field of cooperation. The announcement did not list specific projects, funding amounts or timelines under the memorandum, so the details of the joint work are still to be announced. For now, the signing establishes a partnership between Bahria University and AZM Foundation, with CORE-CF and Bahria Business School as the units through which the university will pursue research and capacity building on climate finance.
