Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated a Rs14.5 million rehabilitation project combining the renovation of Shadman Park with the establishment of a new IT centre in Shadman Town, District Central. The inauguration ceremony brought together City Council members, elected representatives, and relevant officials, reflecting a coordinated municipal effort to deliver both recreational and educational improvements to the local community through a single development initiative.
Speaking at the event, Wahab said development initiatives were being carried out across Karachi to improve recreational, educational, and other essential facilities available to citizens, positioning the Shadman Town project as one example of this broader city wide push. He noted that the rehabilitation work had transformed Shadman Park into a cleaner and more attractive recreational space for residents of the surrounding locality. The 4,400 square metre park has been upgraded with modern amenities, including a dedicated play area and swings designed specifically for children, giving families in the area an improved outdoor space for recreation.
Beyond the park renovation, the mayor highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence and information technology in today’s job market, stressing the need to equip young people with modern skills and knowledge relevant to these fields. This emphasis on technology education tied directly into the second component of the project, the newly rehabilitated IT centre, which Wahab confirmed was now operational, with the admissions process having begun on the day of the inauguration. Once admissions are completed, the centre will offer free courses in artificial intelligence and information technology specifically aimed at young people in the area, with classes expected to begin within the next 30 days.
The combined park and IT centre project reflects a broader pattern among Karachi’s municipal authorities of pairing physical infrastructure improvements with technology education initiatives, aiming to address both the recreational and skill development needs of local communities within a single development effort. By offering free AI and IT courses through a municipally run centre, the initiative could provide young residents of Shadman Town with access to technology training that might otherwise require paid enrollment at private institutions, potentially widening access to in demand technical skills for youth in the surrounding District Central area as the centre begins operations in the coming weeks.
