Tencent Explores Investment Opportunities in Pakistan’s Esports and Gaming Market

Tencent, the Chinese technology and entertainment conglomerate known for developing popular mobile and PC games like PUBG Mobile, League of Legends, and Ring of Elysium, recently met with Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Maj. Gen. Amir Azeem Bajwa (R), at PTA’s headquarters in Islamabad. During the meeting, Tencent’s delegation was briefed on Pakistan’s thriving Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) market and the potential opportunities available in the country.

Recognizing Pakistan’s strong freelancing community, Tencent expressed its interest in investing in esports and other digital services in the country. While specific details were not disclosed, this indicates Tencent’s intention to tap into Pakistan’s esports and mobile gaming scene, particularly due to the immense popularity of PUBG Mobile in the region.

Although PUBG Mobile has gained significant traction in Pakistan and hosted several tournaments, the local market still has untapped potential compared to other major esports markets like China, where significant investments are made in the local industry.

Tencent’s investment has the potential to elevate Pakistan’s professional gaming market to new heights. While PUBG Mobile holds a prominent position in the esports community, other popular titles like Tekken, CSGO, Dota 2, and FIFA could also benefit from Tencent’s involvement. However, given that PUBG Mobile is Tencent’s flagship title, it is likely to receive special attention.

Overall, Tencent’s presence in Pakistan’s gaming industry is positive news for gamers and the esports community, as it opens up promising opportunities for growth and development.
