Abwaab, a Jordanian-based online learning platform, has announced the successful acquisition of Edmatrix, a social e-learning platform based in Pakistan, for an undisclosed sum. Abwaab will immediately begin operations in Pakistan, the world’s fifth most populous country with more than 50 million pupils and a huge need for high-quality, inexpensive education.

Abwaab is an online learning platform that allows secondary school students in the Middle East and North Africa to learn at their own speed. They hope to improve students’ learning outside of the classroom by providing illustrated learning paths, continuous evaluation, and performance-tracking tools. After recently announcing the expansion of its operations in Egypt, this is the startup’s first foray into the larger Asian market.

This transaction brings together two EdTech businesses on a drive to decentralise and digitalize the learning process for students. “Our objective to provide the highest-quality education and make it accessible and affordable to each and every student regardless of socioeconomic status coincides perfectly with Edmatrix’s,” says Abwaab founders and COO Sabri Hakim. We’re thrilled to have them on board as we embark on a mission to transform the way youngsters in our region learn.”

As the Edmatrix team invests their knowledge in this new adventure, Abwaab has a new opportunity to reach out to students in MENA and the larger Asia market by joining forces and extending the team. On this newly established business, Edmatrix’s Raja Ahmed Shuja says, “Our team is passionate about making a difference in Pakistan, and joining forces with the Abwaab team would help us to unlock huge potential.”
