Metro Launches Step Thru Electric Bike In Pakistan

Metro E-Vehicles has launched its new Step-Thru Electric Bike in Pakistan, expanding its electric two wheeler lineup with a pedal assisted bicycle designed for short urban commutes. The new electric bicycle has been introduced at an introductory price of Rs169,000, with the company noting that this promotional rate applies during the initial launch period and may be revised later.

The Step-Thru model is powered by a 350 watt hub motor paired with a 36V 10.4Ah detachable lithium-ion battery, which can be charged separately from the bicycle for added convenience. A multi-gear transmission allows riders to adjust gearing according to road and riding conditions, while the bicycle features a lightweight aluminium alloy frame, front shock absorbers, front and rear disc brakes, and 27.5 inch tyres for improved comfort and stability.

As a pedal assisted electric bicycle, the new model uses a small motor to support the rider while pedalling rather than powering the bicycle independently, making it easier to pedal on slopes or during longer rides. The step-through frame design allows riders to mount and dismount without having to lift a leg over a high crossbar, a practical feature aimed at broadening the bicycle’s appeal across different rider groups. Metro has positioned the Step-Thru primarily for short distance commuting, university travel, and neighbourhood use, targeting buyers who want lower running costs without shifting to a full-size electric motorcycle or scooter.

The launch adds to a broader Metro electric vehicle lineup that already includes models such as the Wonder Bike starting from Rs105,000, the Super Bike from Rs139,000, the T9 Eco at Rs169,000, the Thrill at Rs195,000, and the M6 Empower priced between Rs245,000 and Rs288,000 depending on variant. Some of these existing models, including the Thrill Lithium and M6 Empower, are already included in the government’s Prime Minister’s Electric Bike Scheme, which offers eligible buyers interest free installment plans, though Metro has not yet confirmed whether the new Step-Thru model will be added to that programme.

Metro has not yet disclosed the bicycle’s claimed riding range, charging time, top speed, or battery warranty, details that will be important for buyers weighing its real-world value against conventional bicycles and entry-level electric two wheelers already on the market. The company has opened applications for prospective dealers to expand its sales network, with customers able to find product details and their nearest authorised dealer through Metro’s official website. The launch reflects continued growth in Pakistan’s electric two wheeler segment, as rising fuel prices and traffic congestion push more commuters toward electric alternatives for short, everyday journeys within cities.
