Instant connectivity has become a necessity in all respective services as everything has gone digital. Unilever and VentureDive have teamed up to disrupt the food industry by launching Munchies. Gone are the days of going to your local store to get your favourite treats.

Munchies is an app that allows users to order their favourite treats, such as Flaming Hot Cheetos, a can of their favourite potato chips, Sweet & Sour Pringles, Magnum, and all the desired Cornetto Flavors, in just 30 minutes with the touch of a button. To ensure proper customer loyalty, the service is hyper-focused on instant delivery. This also applies to food producers and markets that want to broaden their offerings by establishing a proper network from both a supply and demand standpoint.

According to Fawad Ahmed, Director Strategy & Digital Transformation at Unilever, the concept was born out of a desire to understand what customers wanted. In terms of food service, it was discovered that approximately 72 percent prefer online ordering to traditional shopping at a market or mall.

However, since Unilever is in the food industry, ensuring a proper tech-based service was crucial, particularly because such a platform had never existed before, resulting in a “fear of the unknown.” This led to a collaboration with VentureDive on the Munchies, with Fawad mentioning at D2X1 that the company collaborated with Unilever to ensure the product’s scalability.

Munchies is currently available for download on both the Android Play Store and the Apple App Store. With nearly 250k downloads and 50k monthly average users, the application currently has a 4.5 organic ranking.

Munchies services are only available in Karachi, but Unilever has stated that they will be expanding quickly, with other food companies and industries partnering with Munchies to develop their own services. In a nutshell, there’s no need to go to Baskin-Robbins when you can get your favourite ice cream with a single click of a button.

With the COVID situation affecting Pakistani markets and industries, the demand for digital solutions and products has risen dramatically. It’s only a matter of time we see Anything traditional will change and merge into this modern digital ecosystem sooner or later.
