The Government of Pakistan has launched the Prime Minister Laptop Loan Scheme 2025, an initiative aimed at reducing the digital divide and enabling wider access to technology across the country. By providing laptops on interest-free installments, the program is designed to help students, freelancers, and young entrepreneurs obtain essential tools for education, digital skills development, and professional growth. Officials have emphasized that this is not merely a financial support program but a strategic investment in Pakistan’s digital economy, equipping the youth to better participate in online learning, freelancing markets, and e-commerce opportunities.

The scheme offers three loan tiers, ranging from PKR 150,000 to PKR 450,000, depending on the type of device required. Applicants can select from the Basic (PKR 150,000), Medium (PKR 300,000), or Advanced (PKR 450,000) categories, with repayment structured through flexible monthly installments spread across several years. This removes the burden of upfront payment and makes devices more accessible at a time when rising technology costs have placed laptops beyond the reach of many households. The initiative has been welcomed as a timely measure to support digital inclusion and ensure that access to quality devices does not remain a privilege limited to higher-income groups.

Eligibility extends to Pakistani citizens between the ages of 18 and 35, with priority given to individuals from low-income backgrounds. The program is primarily designed for university students, freelancers, and early-stage professionals, while government employees are not eligible. Applicants are required to submit necessary documentation, including CNIC, a passport-size photograph, proof of income or guardian’s financial statement, and educational certificates or university admission proof. Freelancers are required to provide their verified online work profiles from platforms such as Fiverr or Upwork. All applications will be processed exclusively through the official Prime Minister Youth Program portal, ensuring a transparent and streamlined registration process.

To apply, interested candidates must visit the official portal at https://pmybals.pmyp.gov.pk/, complete their personal and academic or business details, select their loan tier, provide banking information, and choose a suitable repayment plan. The system also requires applicants to review declarations carefully before submitting their applications. With this digital-first approach, the government has created a centralized and accessible process that reduces barriers and makes participation easier for students and professionals across the country.

The PM Laptop Loan Scheme 2025 arrives at a critical time when access to devices has become essential for education, freelancing, and small business growth. Rising global technology prices have made laptops harder to afford for many young Pakistanis, slowing their entry into the digital economy. By enabling affordable ownership through installment-based financing, the government aims to strengthen digital literacy, create opportunities for entrepreneurship, and prepare Pakistan’s youth for participation in the global knowledge-driven economy. If successfully implemented, the scheme is expected to empower thousands of young citizens, ensuring that technology access becomes a driving force for social and economic mobility across the nation.
