Grey trafficking at its peak – $1bn annual loss

According to PTA official, over the past one and a half years the country witnessed 75 per cent increase in grey trafficking.
Over the past year and a half, the country has witnessed an astonishing 75 per cent increase in grey trafficking,
according to PTA official. The PML-N government has taken minimal action to reverse the trend. Although the PTA official was evasive about the quoted amount of loss the national exchequer had suffered because of the ICH, Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani of the PML-N altered the figure and vaguely stated the amount to be over $1 billion per year. 

Free Wi-Fi! 

Wateen Telecom announced that Civil Aviation Authority Pakistan (CAA) has selected Wateen as an exclusive Wi-Fi provider for establishing state of the art Wi-Fi/Hotspot zones at all CAA major airports in Pakistan.
An announcement was made by Wateen Telecom which stated that the Civil Aviation Authority Pakistan (CAA) has selected Wateen as an exclusive Wi-Fi provider for establishing state of the art Wi-Fi/Hotspot zones at all CAA major airports in Pakistan. The WiFi service was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, representing the Chairman Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Group, along with the CCMO CAA Asif Bashir Khan. Others also present at the inauguration included, GM Commercial & Land Division (North) Amjad Mukhtar Malik, Chief Transformation Officer Wateen Telecom Asad Rezzvi, Head of Special Projects Shahbaz Khan and Marketing Manager (South) Farhan Nabi Khan. Wateen Telecom was selected after a transparent vendor selection process. Wateen Telecom will now manage and operate Wi-Fi services to all the major international airports in Pakistan. 

 

Illegal Gateway Exchange detained in Lahore

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA : NR3C) Lahore jointly conducted successful raid in Lahore and arrested a person who was running these illegal gateway exchanges.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore came together and carried out a successful raid in Lahore and arrested a person who was in charge of running the illegal gateway exchanges. An illegal voice termination activity, which was detected at 260-A, BOR Society, Johar Town Lahore, was taken care of with prompt response from PTA and FIA with the help of joint raid and investigation that was held after. Illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) exchanged comprised of eight GSM gateways of sixteen ports and two gateways of eight ports, SIMs and other equipment was confiscated.
