Punjab Safe Cities Authority has issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant against fake e challan messages and fraudulent websites impersonating the official traffic fine system. The warning follows reports of deceptive Short Message Service notifications containing fake payment links designed to obtain personal and financial information. Authorities have advised motorists to verify all traffic fines through official channels before making any payments.

According to the advisory, fraudsters are sending messages from unauthorized mobile numbers and directing recipients to counterfeit websites that closely resemble official portals. These fake platforms attempt to collect banking credentials and other sensitive information by misleading users into believing they have outstanding traffic violations. Punjab Safe Cities Authority clarified that genuine e challan notifications do not contain payment links or request confidential financial information through Short Message Service. Citizens have been urged not to click on suspicious links or share personal details in response to unsolicited messages.

To help prevent online fraud, the authority has advised motorists to verify e-challans only through the official e challan portal and make payments using approved government payment channels. Officials also stated that action is being taken against fraudulent websites and online platforms that misuse the authority’s identity to deceive the public. Citizens who receive suspicious messages are encouraged to report them through the relevant complaint channels so appropriate action can be taken.

The advisory highlights the growing need for cybersecurity awareness as more public services become available through digital platforms. With increasing adoption of online government services and digital payment systems, authorities continue to encourage citizens to remain cautious when responding to unexpected messages claiming to be from government departments. Verifying information through official platforms and avoiding suspicious links remain essential steps in protecting personal and financial information from online scams.
