The federal government has completed the first batch of disbursements under the PM Fuel Package 2026, transferring Rs. 1.2 billion digitally to more than 32,000 beneficiaries across the country. The recipients include operators of buses, trucks, long-haul vehicles, and delivery vans  segments of the transport sector that have been bearing the brunt of elevated fuel costs over recent months. The payments were facilitated entirely through Easypaisa, marking the digital wallet platform’s entry as the first of its kind to process government fuel relief transfers to truck operators in Pakistan.

The initiative represents a deliberate move away from traditional cash-based disbursement mechanisms toward a model that officials have described as fast, secure, and transparent. By routing payments directly to beneficiaries through Easypaisa’s digital infrastructure, the government has sought to eliminate the delays, leakages, and administrative overhead that have historically undermined the effectiveness of subsidy programmes in Pakistan. The real-time transfer capability built into the digital wallet system ensures that eligible citizens receive support without the friction typically associated with government payment pipelines, and the approach is being held up as a template for future large-scale relief disbursements.

The current phase marks only the beginning of a wider rollout. According to official statements, subsequent phases of the PM Fuel Package 2026 are expected to extend coverage to tank lorries, buses, and motorcycle operators — broadening the relief net significantly to include one of Pakistan’s largest and most economically vulnerable transport segments. Jahanzeb Khan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Easypaisa digital bank, said the platform was honoured to partner with the government in delivering timely financial relief, while Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja underlined that digital payments are now a central pillar of Pakistan’s modern financial system, supporting transparency, efficiency, and financial inclusion at scale. With over 59 million registered users and an extensive agent network spanning both urban and rural areas, Easypaisa continues to position itself as the primary infrastructure partner for government-to-person payment programmes at scale.
