The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is poised to implement stricter regulations on the import of mobile phones. In a recent notification, the FBR proposed amendments to the Baggage Rules, 2006, which would limit the number of mobile phones a passenger can bring into the country.
Under the proposed rules, passengers will be allowed to bring only one mobile phone for personal use. Any additional mobile phones will be subject to customs duties and taxes. Moreover, the import of mobile phones in commercial quantities will be strictly prohibited.
The FBR has invited public feedback on the proposed amendments, seeking suggestions or objections within seven days of the notification’s publication in the official gazette. The feedback received will be considered by the FBR before finalizing the rules.
This move by the FBR is aimed at regulating the import of mobile phones and preventing smuggling. By imposing stricter restrictions, the government aims to protect domestic industries and ensure fair competition.
However, the new regulations may impact travelers, especially those who frequently travel abroad and bring back multiple devices for personal use or as gifts. It is advisable for travelers to stay updated on the latest rules and regulations to avoid any inconvenience at customs.
