PASHA hosted a webinar on April 22 bringing together its membership with the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, in what the association described as an open and substantive dialogue on the direction of Pakistan’s digital economy and the pressing concerns of the country’s information technology and IT-enabled services sector. The session was led by PASHA Chairman Sajjad Syed and drew over 100 industry members, reflecting the depth of engagement that the association’s membership maintains around policy issues that directly affect their businesses and the sector’s ability to compete internationally.
Joining the minister in the session were Zarrar Hasham Khan, Secretary of Information Technology and Telecommunication, and Faisal Jeddy, Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Software Export Board, giving the webinar a strong institutional presence that allowed for direct, authoritative engagement on both policy intent and implementation realities. The combination of the federal minister, the ministry’s senior administrative leadership, and the export board’s chief executive in a single forum with over a hundred industry voices created a concentrated opportunity for the kind of frank exchange between the public and private sectors that industry bodies like PASHA work to facilitate on a consistent basis.
Key areas of discussion included industry growth trajectories, emerging opportunities in the global technology market, mechanisms for deepening public and private sector collaboration, and the structural challenges that continue to face Pakistan’s information technology sector in areas such as talent retention, connectivity, regulatory clarity, and market access. Pakistan’s information technology exports have been on a strong upward trajectory, surpassing USD 3.39 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, but the sector has also been vocal about the infrastructure and policy gaps that it believes are preventing growth from reaching its full potential given the scale of demand for Pakistani technology talent globally.
PASHA extended its gratitude to all members who participated actively in the session, acknowledging the value of their contributions to the discussion. The webinar reflects a model of structured, senior-level engagement between Pakistan’s primary information technology industry association and the federal government that is essential for ensuring that sector-specific concerns are heard and considered in the policy decisions that shape the environment in which over two million IT professionals and thousands of companies operate across the country.
