The Government of Sindh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tech Valley Pakistan and the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) to strengthen digital skills development and expand access to Google Career Certificates for students across the province. The agreement, signed in the presence of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, marks another step toward preparing students for the demands of the modern digital economy by equipping them with globally recognized professional certifications. The initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to promoting technology-driven education and creating greater opportunities for youth through industry-relevant digital learning programmes.
The MoU was signed by Secretary of the Science & Information Technology Department Zulfikar Ali Nizamani, Chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission Prof. Tariq Rafi, and Tech Valley Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Umer Farooq. The ceremony was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for the Science & Information Technology Department Muhammad Ali Rashid, Member IT Dr. Shahzeb Malik, representatives from Google and Tech Valley Pakistan, senior government officials and members of academia. The collaboration brings together the public sector and private technology partners to build a stronger digital education ecosystem that aligns academic learning with evolving industry requirements.
Under the partnership, students enrolled in universities across Sindh will gain access to Google Career Certificates, which are designed to provide practical, job-oriented training in high-demand fields. These industry-recognized certifications focus on developing workplace skills that are increasingly sought after by employers worldwide, helping students become more competitive in both local and international job markets. By integrating globally accepted digital training into higher education, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and industry expectations while improving graduate employability.
The programme also supports Sindh’s broader digital transformation strategy by encouraging technology adoption within educational institutions and expanding access to modern learning opportunities. Through collaboration with Google and Tech Valley Pakistan, universities will be able to offer students structured learning pathways that emphasize practical knowledge, digital competencies and professional development. The initiative is expected to contribute to workforce development by preparing graduates with future-ready skills that can support Pakistan’s growing technology sector and digital economy.
Government officials described the partnership as an important milestone in strengthening higher education and digital capacity building across Sindh. As industries continue to embrace emerging technologies, initiatives that connect students with internationally recognized certifications are expected to play a key role in developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting global standards. By expanding access to quality digital education and fostering collaboration between government, academia and technology partners, the programme aims to create new employment opportunities, support innovation and accelerate Sindh’s transition toward a knowledge-based economy.
