Pakistan Single Window (PSW) program is making significant progress in digitizing trade procedures. In a recent meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, PSW officials reported that 155 documents are now submitted electronically, replacing manual processes for importers and exporters.

The program has re-engineered trade processes and eliminated the need for many manual documents. Electronic verifications have replaced paper-based requirements, reducing paperwork, saving time, and lowering costs for businesses.

The Finance Minister urged provincial governments to collaborate with PSW to ensure its benefits reach businesses across Pakistan. He also emphasized stakeholder involvement and prioritizing system security.

PSW is developing a plan to create a uniform transit trade regime for all countries, simplifying procedures for businesses moving goods through Pakistan. An international consultant will conduct a study to streamline the system while implementing safeguards to prevent smuggling and cargo loss.

To facilitate data exchange and prevent under-invoicing of imports, PSW is connecting with China’s trade single window. This integration will allow for efficient data exchange on goods declarations, certificates, and shipping information, enabling advanced risk management and faster customs clearance.

The program goes beyond digitizing customs by integrating with port communities, trade information portals, and payment systems. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline the entire trade supply chain.

PSW has successfully integrated with banks and several government departments. Integration with additional organizations is planned for the current year. Importers can now choose from pre-approved inspection and treatment providers, further simplifying the process for agricultural imports and exports. The program has also eliminated the need for physical visits to banks and other integrated departments, saving businesses time and effort.

The PSW program represents a significant step towards modernizing Pakistan’s trade infrastructure and creating a more efficient and transparent business environment.
