Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has revealed plans for an expansion of public transport services in Karachi following Eid ul Fitr. Addressing the media in Karachi, the minister underscored the commitment to enhance the city’s transport system, with the introduction of new buses on various routes across the provincial capital.
Additionally, Memon announced the initiation of two additional routes for electric buses, alongside an increase in the fleet size for the Pink Bus Service. Highlighting the significance of public transportation, Memon noted that over 100,000 individuals utilize the People’s Bus Service daily.
In a bid to streamline commuting, the Transport Minister disclosed the introduction of prepaid cards for routes 1 and 9, which will also be compatible with the Green Line and Orange Line services. Memon elaborated on plans to implement an automated prepaid card system starting April 18 for the mentioned routes, with future expansion envisaged across all public transport schemes.
Expanding the reach of accessible transportation, Memon declared the extension of the Peoples Bus Service to Mirpurkhas. He emphasized that these initiatives align with directives from Bilawal Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari to bolster transport infrastructure across Sindh. Additionally, Memon announced a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking in the province.
