The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has introduced a new School Monitoring App designed to oversee 60,015 educational institutions across the province through a centralized digital platform. The application brings school monitoring functions together to help education authorities assess student learning outcomes, classroom teaching practices and infrastructure conditions. The initiative aims to replace fragmented monitoring mechanisms with a unified system that provides officials with school-related information and supports data-driven decisions. By consolidating different monitoring activities, the department intends to improve oversight and identify areas requiring attention across Punjab’s education system.
The application includes features for tracking students’ academic progress, assessing teaching practices and reviewing the condition of school facilities. Officials can also access information about student enrolment, classroom availability and school buildings. These functions are intended to provide a broader picture of school performance beyond basic administrative records, allowing monitoring teams to examine both academic and infrastructure-related conditions. The platform is designed to cover schools associated with three organisations: the School Education Department, Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA) and Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
Authorized users can access the application by logging in with their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and password. After logging in, they can select their assigned schools and access relevant monitoring sections, including student assessments, teaching observations and infrastructure conditions. The system is intended for departmental monitoring personnel and provides access according to assigned schools and responsibilities. Bringing these functions into one application could reduce the need to use separate monitoring mechanisms for institutions managed under different education programmes.
The department expects the new platform to improve transparency, accountability and school supervision by making relevant information accessible through a single digital system. The data collected through student assessments, classroom observations and infrastructure reviews could help authorities identify schools requiring academic support, facility improvements or further administrative attention. However, details about the application’s development cost, technology provider, implementation schedule and monitoring frequency have not been disclosed. The launch represents another step in Punjab’s efforts to use digital platforms in public-sector administration, with the effectiveness of the system depending on the accuracy of information recorded and how authorities use the findings to address issues across the province’s schools.
