Sixteen students from Virtual University of Pakistan have been selected as Section Leaders in Code in Place, the world’s largest global coding programme hosted by Stanford University in the United States, marking a significant international recognition of the talent and academic calibre being developed at one of Pakistan’s largest federal government universities.

Code in Place is a free, globally accessible introductory programming course run by Stanford University that draws tens of thousands of participants from across the world each year. Section Leaders are selected from among the most capable and engaged participants to facilitate small group learning sessions, guide other students through the course material, and serve as peer educators within Stanford’s teaching infrastructure. Being selected as a Section Leader is a competitive process that requires demonstrated coding competency, communication ability, and a commitment to supporting fellow learners, making the selection of 16 Virtual University students a meaningful marker of where these individuals stand relative to a global pool of applicants.

The 16 selected students span a range of programmes including Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Data Science, Bachelor of Business Information Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, reflecting a breadth of technical backgrounds across the university’s student body. Virtual University of Pakistan, which delivers its entire curriculum through digital and distance learning platforms, has long positioned itself as a democratising force in Pakistan’s higher education landscape, extending quality degree programmes to students who would otherwise be unable to access university education due to geographic, financial, or social barriers. The selection of its students as Stanford Section Leaders is a validation that the institution’s academic standards and the independent drive of its student community can produce graduates who compete credibly on the global stage, not merely as learners but as educators and leaders within internationally recognised programmes.
