The IMDD-II division of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, in collaboration with the Embassy of Pakistan in Switzerland, organised a webinar titled Pakistan-Switzerland Trade: Opportunities, Challenges and Way Forward on June 2, 2026, bringing together representatives from government institutions, trade bodies, and the private sector from both countries. The session was aimed at identifying concrete pathways for expanding bilateral trade, facilitating business-to-business engagement, and unlocking the untapped potential of the Pakistan-Switzerland commercial relationship across key sectors.

The webinar opened with remarks by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland, who highlighted the importance of strengthening economic ties and enhancing commercial engagement between the two countries. The Director General for Services and Information Technology at TDAP then set the context for the session, emphasising the webinar’s focus on developing practical export pathways and creating structured mechanisms for private sector interaction between Pakistani and Swiss businesses. Representatives from the Swiss Chamber of Commerce contributed valuable perspectives on market dynamics, business opportunities, and the experiences of exporters operating in Swiss and broader European markets, while also identifying areas where greater bilateral collaboration could generate new commercial prospects for Pakistani companies.

A comprehensive presentation by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry provided participants with an overview of bilateral trade trends, key opportunities, prevailing challenges, and strategic recommendations for expanding trade cooperation, underscoring the significant potential for growth and the importance of sustained engagement between Pakistani and Swiss stakeholders. The sectoral segment of the webinar featured presentations by the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association and PASHA, showcasing Pakistan’s strengths in the textile and information technology sectors respectively. PASHA’s participation in the session is particularly relevant given Pakistan’s IT export growth trajectory and the potential for Swiss financial services, pharmaceutical, and technology companies to become clients for Pakistani software and IT-enabled services firms. The presentations covered export potential, competitiveness, innovation, compliance readiness, and specific partnership opportunities with Swiss businesses across both sectors.

An interactive question and answer session allowed participants from both sides to exchange views on market access requirements, regulatory considerations, and the practical measures needed to facilitate greater trade and investment linkages. The webinar concluded with a shared commitment from participants on both sides to continue strengthening Pakistan-Switzerland economic relations and fostering deeper collaboration between businesses and institutions in the two countries. The session forms part of TDAP’s broader strategy of using digital diplomacy and structured trade webinars to open new geographic markets for Pakistani exporters, particularly in European markets where Pakistan’s presence in sectors such as information technology and financial technology services remains significantly below its potential relative to the capabilities of the country’s growing export-oriented technology industry.
