Samsung has officially announced that its Galaxy Z Trifold smartphone will go on sale in the US on January 30, 2026, with a retail price of $2,900. The announcement fills in the last missing piece from the company’s earlier release of select international launch dates at the end of 2025. While the cost is steep, the Galaxy Z Trifold offers a unique form factor that combines the functionality of a smartphone and tablet into a single device, featuring three foldable screens in a slim, modern design. The US model comes with 512GB of internal storage and is available only in black.

Early hands-on impressions from industry reviewers suggest that the Galaxy Z Trifold manages to balance cutting-edge design with usability. At CES 2026, Engadget senior writer Sam Rutherford described the device as impressive despite its bulk, stating that it delivered a surprisingly satisfying user experience. The triple-screen layout allows users to multitask in ways that traditional smartphones cannot, offering expanded screen real estate for apps, media, and productivity tools. While the high price may initially limit adoption, those who would normally carry both a tablet and a phone may find the combination appealing, as it eliminates the need for multiple devices.

Samsung has steadily improved its foldable smartphone line over the past few years, and the Galaxy Z Trifold represents the company’s most ambitious attempt to date. Advances in hinge technology, display durability, and software optimization allow the device to operate as a seamless, multifunctional tool. Despite being a premium device, Samsung’s approach aims to make the foldable experience feel natural, with minimal learning curve for users accustomed to conventional smartphones or tablets. The device also integrates Samsung’s ecosystem of apps and services, including Samsung Notes, DeX, and productivity-focused features, enhancing the appeal for professionals and power users.

The Galaxy Z Trifold is part of a broader trend in the smartphone market, where manufacturers are experimenting with foldable and multi-screen designs to create devices that offer more versatile screen space while remaining portable. Although the cost places it firmly in the high-end segment, the device represents Samsung’s vision of converging phones and tablets into a single premium product. As availability approaches on January 30, tech enthusiasts and early adopters in the US will have the opportunity to explore the full capabilities of this foldable design, experiencing firsthand how Samsung continues to push the boundaries of smartphone engineering and user experience.
