ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday issued a public advisory urging citizens to refrain from sharing unverified, inflammatory, or misleading information on social media amid the prevailing geopolitical situation. The regulator emphasized the importance of relying on authentic and official sources, warning users against forwarding or uploading content that could contribute to rumours or misinformation online.

In its statement, the PTA highlighted the sensitivity of the current national environment and called upon the public to demonstrate responsibility while using digital platforms. The authority cautioned that sharing fake news or misleading information could result in legal action under applicable laws. It further urged citizens to act with maturity and a strong sense of national responsibility to help maintain public confidence and stability during a period of heightened tensions.

The advisory comes amid escalating developments in the Middle East, where the United States and Israel reportedly launched strikes against Iran. At the same time, Pakistan’s security forces continue to respond to cross-border aggression from the Afghan Taliban along the western frontier as part of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, initiated following what officials described as unprovoked firing incidents from across the border.

The PTA reiterated that responsible digital conduct is essential during sensitive times and stressed that misinformation can have serious consequences for national stability. The regulator encouraged the public to verify information before sharing it and to prioritize official communication channels for updates regarding security and geopolitical developments.
