The Pakistan Engineering Council has successfully placed over 1,300 fresh engineering graduates in the second batch of its Graduate Engineer Trainee Placement Program, marking a significant step in the council’s efforts to bridge the gap between academic training and professional employment in Pakistan’s engineering sector. In total, 1,700 graduates were selected through a transparent digital balloting process conducted at the end of March, with the initiative designed to provide industry-specific training and ease the transition of engineers from academic learning to professional practice. The remaining selected candidates will be placed after completing their reporting formalities through subsequent phases of digital balloting.
The selected graduates have been welcomed by senior officials in their respective organisations and have begun orientation sessions and onboarding procedures. Their placements span multiple departments across more than 60 public and private sector organisations, ensuring exposure to diverse industries and real-world engineering challenges. The breadth of placements across both government and private entities is a deliberate design choice, giving young engineers visibility into different operational environments and professional cultures rather than concentrating all participants in a single sector.
Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir expressed satisfaction over the successful rollout of the second batch, highlighting that the merit-based and fully digital selection process ensured transparency and fairness. He said the program is designed not only to provide technical exposure but also to strengthen soft skills and professional competence, adding that by placing young engineers in real working environments, the council is helping them develop both technical expertise and interpersonal skills that will contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s engineering sector.
The Graduate Engineer Trainee Program offers six months of structured training, including five months of field experience and one month of dedicated skill development. Participants receive a monthly stipend of PKR 50,000 and are awarded a QR-verified completion certificate upon successfully graduating from the program. Fully funded by the Pakistan Engineering Council, the initiative is aimed at empowering young engineers, strengthening the engineering workforce, and contributing to Pakistan’s long-term development goals. The use of a QR-verified certificate is a notable feature, adding a layer of digital authentication to the credential that makes it easier for employers to verify a candidate’s participation and completion of the program in a traceable and tamper-resistant format.
