Meta is set to significantly enhance Pakistan’s global connectivity with the installation of a 45,000-km-long undersea cable connecting Karachi to 33 other countries in Africa and the Middle East.

This infrastructure investment, scheduled for completion by 2025, will drastically improve bandwidth, reduce latency, and boost overall connectivity for Pakistani users, including content creators.

In a recent interview, Simon Milner, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for the Asia Pacific region, discussed the company’s commitment to supporting innovation and fostering responsible digital citizenship among the youth in Pakistan.

Milner highlighted Meta’s efforts to enhance AI innovation through the Llama AI initiative and the success of a recent AI competition in Pakistan. The competition, in partnership with NITB, Ignite, and the Ministry of IT, attracted over 100 applicants and showcased promising AI-driven solutions.

The winning team will represent Pakistan in Singapore, competing for a $100,000 grant. Milner emphasized Meta’s role in nurturing Pakistan’s tech ecosystem and its potential to contribute significantly to the global technology landscape.

Milner also discussed Meta’s strategic initiatives with the Pakistani government, focusing on leveraging AI to drive economic growth and enhance digital safety. He highlighted the government’s enthusiasm and commitment to AI and its potential to streamline economic inefficiencies and create job opportunities.

Regarding monetization for Pakistani creators, Milner acknowledged the challenges but assured that Meta is working diligently to overcome them. The company is making progress towards enabling monetization for content creators in Pakistan, allowing them to earn from their digital content.
