The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has fully operationalised a Digital Medicines and Vaccines Procurement and Distribution Framework to modernize the management of livestock medicines and vaccines across the province. The technology-driven system introduces end-to-end digital tracking of veterinary medicines and vaccines, enabling authorities to monitor every stage of the supply chain from procurement and quality assurance to warehousing, distribution and final delivery to livestock farmers. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader digital governance reforms aimed at improving transparency, strengthening accountability and enhancing public service delivery in the livestock sector.

The new framework digitizes the complete lifecycle of medicines and vaccines, ensuring that procurement records, stock management, cold chain monitoring and district-wise distribution are all managed through a centralized digital platform. Officials can access a live dashboard that provides real-time information on procurement status, warehouse inventories, vaccine storage conditions, supply records and utilization across the province. The system also records the administration of medicines and vaccines to individual livestock owners, creating a transparent digital trail that allows authorities to verify where supplies are sent and how they are being used.

As part of the implementation process, officials conducted live verification exercises using the digital dashboard by randomly selecting beneficiary records from multiple districts and directly contacting farmers to confirm that medicines and vaccines had been delivered as recorded in the system. The successful verification demonstrated the framework’s ability to accurately track supplies and improve accountability throughout the distribution process. By digitizing every transaction and maintaining real-time records, the government aims to minimize leakages, reduce opportunities for misuse and ensure that veterinary medicines reach their intended beneficiaries efficiently.

The initiative builds upon Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s ongoing digital transformation of the livestock sector, following the introduction of the Livestock Management Information System (LMIS) earlier this year. Together, these reforms are creating a comprehensive digital ecosystem that supports livestock health management, disease surveillance, inventory monitoring and farmer services. By integrating procurement, supply chain management and field service delivery into a single technology platform, the government seeks to improve operational efficiency while strengthening confidence in public sector veterinary services.

Officials have described the framework as an important governance reform that will improve transparency, enhance institutional performance and support evidence-based decision-making within the livestock sector. As Pakistan increasingly adopts digital technologies across public administration, initiatives such as this demonstrate how data-driven systems can improve service delivery, optimize resource management and strengthen accountability. The digital tracking framework is expected to play a key role in protecting livestock health, supporting farmers and contributing to the long-term modernization of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s agricultural and livestock economy.
