Huawei has expanded its Nova 16 smartphone series with the introduction of the Nova 16z, a device that focuses on connectivity enhancements while retaining much of the hardware seen in its predecessor. The new model joins the Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro and Nova 16 Ultra in the lineup and arrives with support for BeiDou satellite messaging, making advanced communication features available to a wider segment of users. The addition of satellite connectivity stands out as the most notable change, while the overall hardware package remains largely consistent with the Nova 15.

The Huawei Nova 16z features a 6.7 inch OLED display with a resolution of 1084 x 2412 pixels and support for 10 bit color reproduction. The smartphone is powered by the Kirin 8020 processor and is available with 12GB of memory paired with either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. Huawei has equipped the device with a 6000mAh battery supported by 100W wired fast charging, although wireless charging is not included. The handset runs HarmonyOS 6.1 and includes modern connectivity options such as Wi Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, near field communication and Huawei StarFlash technology.

In the camera department, the Nova 16z continues with a familiar setup consisting of a 50 megapixel front facing camera and a dual rear camera arrangement led by a 50 megapixel main sensor. It is accompanied by a 12 megapixel telephoto camera featuring 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. Huawei has maintained much of the imaging hardware from the previous generation, focusing instead on refining the overall user experience. The device also includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, advanced navigation support through BeiDou, GPS and Galileo systems, and an aluminum silicate glass protected display.

A key highlight of the Nova 16z is its satellite communication capability, allowing users to send and receive messages, including photo messages, through the BeiDou satellite network in areas where conventional mobile coverage may not be available. The feature can also support emergency communication and access to weather information in remote locations. Huawei has increasingly expanded satellite communication across its smartphone portfolio, and the Nova 16z represents one of the more accessible devices to include the technology. The smartphone is currently available in China in multiple color options, with pricing starting at CNY 2,699 for the 12GB and 256GB variant and rising to CNY 3,199 for the 12GB and 512GB model.
