Google has announced that Pakistani students will be able to access a Gemini subscription free of charge for one year, providing students with access to Google’s artificial intelligence tools for learning, research and productivity. The announcement was made during Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with a Google delegation in Islamabad and comes alongside the inauguration of Google’s first office in Pakistan. Google Vice President Wilson L. White said the company would announce the student offer later in the week, making the initiative part of Google’s broader engagement with Pakistan’s technology and education sectors.
The one year subscription is intended to give students access to Google’s advanced artificial intelligence capabilities that can be used for academic work, research and other productivity tasks. Gemini can assist users with tasks such as understanding complex subjects, preparing study material, analyzing information and organizing academic content. Google’s current AI Pro offering also includes enhanced Gemini capabilities, Gemini integration across applications such as Gmail and Docs, and expanded access to research features. Google says its AI Pro plan can help students organize course materials, generate practice tests, review work and conduct research using large amounts of information.
The student offer comes as Google expands its engagement with Pakistan following the opening of its local office. During the meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Google delegation discussed the company’s involvement in Pakistan’s technology sector, including investment in people, manufacturing and infrastructure and support for local businesses. White also said Google’s objectives were aligned with the Prime Minister’s ambition of developing Pakistan’s IT exports into a US$30 billion sector. The company has also been involved in initiatives related to digital skills and technology adoption in Pakistan, while the new student subscription provides another route for young people to gain access to artificial intelligence tools.
The announcement is particularly relevant as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into education, software development, research and professional work. Providing students with access to advanced AI tools can give them opportunities to experiment with technologies that are increasingly being used across different industries. Google has previously offered an AI Pro student promotion in Pakistan, although its earlier student offer ended in 2025 according to Google’s current student information page. The latest announcement indicates that Google is preparing another student focused initiative for Pakistan, with further details on eligibility, activation and the exact subscription benefits expected to be provided through Google’s forthcoming announcement. For Pakistani students, the initiative could provide access to premium Gemini capabilities without the usual subscription cost for the specified one year period, while also supporting the broader push toward artificial intelligence skills and digital learning in the country.
