WhatsApp is preparing to bring group voice and video calls to its web platform, a feature long requested by users seeking a more complete browser experience. Until now, WhatsApp Web has only supported one-on-one calls, limiting the ability to connect with multiple participants without installing the mobile or desktop apps. The new update, still under development, aims to enable users to start and join group calls directly through the web interface, providing functionality similar to mobile and desktop platforms.

This move addresses the growing demand for seamless communication on devices where installing applications may not be possible or practical, such as shared or temporary computers. Users will be able to initiate group voice or video calls directly from group chats and receive notifications in the browser interface. This expansion will make WhatsApp Web a more flexible and convenient tool for both professional and personal use, allowing participants to engage in conversations without losing key features when switching devices.

Early reports indicate that group calls on WhatsApp Web will support up to 32 participants, mirroring the mobile app experience, though the company may initially limit smaller groups to ensure call quality and system stability. This phased rollout will allow WhatsApp to fine-tune performance for web users before enabling the full participant capacity. By doing so, the platform aims to maintain call clarity and connection reliability even as more users join simultaneous sessions, enhancing the overall communication experience.

Once implemented, the update will transform WhatsApp Web into a more robust and versatile communication platform. Users will no longer need to rely solely on mobile or desktop apps for group interactions, making browser-based calls a viable alternative in professional meetings, family chats, or collaborative projects. This development reinforces WhatsApp’s effort to provide consistent features across devices, bridging gaps between mobile, desktop, and web usage while maintaining simplicity, accessibility, and convenience for a wide range of users.
