Trump Mobile’s T1 smartphone has finally begun shipping to pre-order customers in the United States, marking the end of a prolonged period of uncertainty that had surrounded the politically branded Android device since it was first announced in June 2025. Trump Mobile company boss Pat O’Brien confirmed to Reuters that delivery of the first pre-ordered devices was beginning, with the gold-coloured Android smartphone originally announced for August 2025 having been postponed several times, with details regarding technology, production, and design also repeatedly revised in the interim.
The T1 is offered by Trump Mobile for $499 and features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon processor, 512GB of storage, a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging, and a triple-camera system. The device retains a 3.5-millimetre headphone jack, which Trump Mobile has highlighted in promotional materials as a differentiating feature at a time when many high-end smartphones have dropped the port. A transparent protective case is also included in the package. The phone’s visual identity is unmistakable, with a gold-coloured casing and a United States flag on the back above the words Trump Mobile, making the political statement central to the device’s branding from the moment it is picked up.
The controversy surrounding the T1 has extended beyond its delays. Trump Mobile changed its marketing claims regarding manufacturing on several occasions, initially suggesting the smartphone was developed and built in the United States before ultimately stating only that the first devices would be assembled in the US, a significantly narrower claim than the original communication. The design also went through multiple revisions, with earlier product images showing a different camera layout and the display size on the company’s website updated at various points, reinforcing industry scepticism about how ready the device was for production at any given moment during the long lead-up to launch. Critics have also raised a potential conflict of interest given that the brand could be seen as capitalising on the name of the current United States President, though the White House has rejected such allegations, pointing out that Trump’s assets are managed by his children. Trump Mobile itself has been operating as a virtual mobile network operator since June 2025, using the infrastructure of existing United States carriers, with its monthly service plan priced at $47.45, a deliberate reference to Trump’s role as the 45th and 47th President. Whether the T1 can justify its price point against established Android competitors at the same tier will depend on independent testing, as the device’s political branding is unlikely to substitute for the kind of performance and software experience that mainstream consumers have come to expect at the $499 price point.
