Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, officially launched the Sindh Smart Surveillance System (S4) at the Sassi Toll Plaza in a significant move aimed at bolstering security measures.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of key dignitaries, including Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab, IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, NRTC MD, CPLC chief, and other officials.
CM Syed Murad Ali Shah underscored the extensive coverage of the S4 system, which is set to encompass 40 toll plazas across the region. He also revealed plans for the integration of all toll plazas by August to establish a comprehensive security network.
Acknowledging security challenges in the Kutcha region being limited to one district, CM Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed optimism that the S4 system would play a pivotal role in crime control, particularly in the Malir district, while curbing the spread of criminal activities throughout Sindh.
The S4 system boasts the capability to capture number plate and facial recognition data through strategically positioned cameras at toll plaza entrances and exits. It actively monitors vehicle movements across the province and seamlessly synchronizes with the Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi Command and Control Centre.
The surveillance infrastructure includes a network of nine MPANPR cameras equipped with night vision technology for detecting authorized number plates, alongside eight MPFR cameras (night vision) designed to gather driver and passenger facial profiles at each toll booth.
To ensure uninterrupted functionality, a solar power solution with 8 to 10 hours of battery backup, complemented by a generator power system, will keep the S4 operational at all toll plazas. State-of-the-art facilities have been established for effective data management at the CPO Command and Control Room.
The implementation of computer-aided dispatch systems, mobile patrol units, artificial intelligence, and analytical tools is expected to significantly enhance response efficiency. CM Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed hope that the newly inaugurated system would contribute to reducing crime rates across Sindh.
