Samsung is rolling out a software update that brings native Google Cast support to its smart television lineup, addressing a long-standing gap in the platform that had required users to rely on alternative casting methods since the company’s smart televisions first gained widespread adoption. The update is being released across Samsung’s 2026 television range, with a number of select models from the 2023 and 2024 lineups, including the Samsung S95D, also confirmed to receive the upgrade.

The addition of Google Cast marks a meaningful shift in how Samsung television owners can share content from their mobile devices to the screen. Previously, Samsung televisions depended on Smart View or Apple AirPlay to handle screen sharing and mirroring tasks. While both of those options provided workable solutions, they operated differently from Google Cast in one important respect. Smart View and AirPlay function by mirroring exactly what is displayed on the user’s phone or tablet at any given moment, meaning the mobile device is effectively tied to the television’s output throughout the session. Google Cast, by contrast, works by sending a content link directly to the television, which then handles playback independently. This means users are free to continue using their phone for other purposes, such as browsing, messaging, or switching applications, without interrupting what is playing on the screen.

Samsung television owners who want to verify whether the update has been installed on their device can do so by checking whether a Cast option appears within supported applications such as Netflix, as the presence of that option confirms the feature is active. For those who prefer to manually trigger the installation, the update can be accessed by navigating to Settings, then Support, then Software Update, and selecting the option to update immediately to install the latest version of Samsung’s One UI television interface. The update requires no purchase and arrives as a free addition to compatible devices already in use.
