Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced that modern AI based traffic signals will be installed in Quetta to address the city’s growing traffic congestion on a more permanent basis. He said resolving traffic problems through advanced technology forms a key part of the provincial government’s broader reform agenda, adding that all available resources would be directed toward achieving this goal.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, where officials reviewed strategies for managing the city’s increasing traffic pressure and discussed the implementation of a modern traffic management system. Participants were briefed that AI powered signals are expected to improve overall traffic flow, reduce unnecessary waiting times at busy intersections, and give residents a smoother travel experience across the city.

During the meeting, Bugti directed relevant institutions to ensure coordinated and sustainable measures are put in place to build an effective traffic system for Quetta. He said by harnessing modern technology, the government aims to improve traffic flow and deliver quality travel services to the people, framing the initiative as part of a broader effort to modernize urban infrastructure in the provincial capital. He also stressed that providing safe and efficient travel facilities for citizens remains one of the government’s top priorities going forward.

According to the Chief Minister, the AI based traffic management system is expected to shorten overall travel times, encourage greater discipline on the roads, and improve transparency and monitoring within the city’s traffic enforcement processes. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to equipping Quetta with more modern urban facilities, stating that decisions guided by technology would help create a safer, better organized and more reliable travel environment for residents across the city. The initiative adds to a broader pattern of AI powered traffic management projects being introduced in cities across Pakistan, as provincial governments continue looking to modern surveillance and signal technology as a way to address longstanding urban congestion issues.
