Tech Valley’s Digital Sahafat program has been highlighted by the Google News Initiative as a case study in equipping media professionals with artificial intelligence skills. The program was launched to help Pakistan’s media workforce learn how to use current AI tools in their daily reporting workflows, introducing journalists to Google products including Gemini, NotebookLM, Pinpoint, Trends, and SynthID as part of newsroom training sessions.

According to figures shared as part of the case study, Digital Sahafat has trained 4,000 media professionals and students in advanced AI competencies since its launch. Participant confidence in using AI tools securely rose sharply over the course of the training, climbing from a baseline of 25 percent to 90 percent among those who completed the program. A significant majority of participants also reported saving 25 percent or more of their time on daily reporting tasks as a result of incorporating these tools into their workflows.

The program has been credited with helping journalists verify AI generated content more effectively while refocusing their efforts on deeper investigative reporting, addressing a growing concern in newsrooms globally around distinguishing authentic content from AI generated material. Organizers reported sustained, long term utilization of the tools introduced through the program across both legacy and digital-first newsrooms in Pakistan, suggesting the training translated into lasting changes in daily reporting practices rather than one-off adoption.

The recognition from Google News Initiative adds to a broader set of partnerships Tech Valley has built with Google across Pakistan’s education and skills development landscape, spanning K-12 schools, university partnerships, and now media industry training. The case study is intended to serve as a reference point for how structured AI literacy training can be delivered to working journalists, positioning Digital Sahafat as one of the more visible examples of AI adoption within Pakistan’s media sector to date.
