The Punjab government has decided to digitize the issuance of medico legal certificates and reports at all government teaching hospitals across the province, moving away from the manual documentation process that has long been used at public healthcare facilities. The decision was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique, attended by senior representatives from the healthcare department, hospital administrators and other relevant officials.

During the meeting, Khawaja Salman Rafique directed all government teaching hospitals to immediately shift the process of issuing medico legal certificates and reports to an online system. He instructed medical superintendents to take full responsibility for implementing the decision and to introduce effective measures aimed at modernizing the existing reporting system at their respective institutions, signaling that the shift is expected to take place without delay across the province’s teaching hospitals.

Specialized Healthcare Secretary Azmat Mehmood made it clear that manual medico legal reports would not be accepted going forward under any circumstances, reinforcing the government’s intention to fully transition to a digital process. He directed relevant authorities to complete all necessary arrangements as soon as possible to ensure government teaching hospitals are moved to the new digital system without further delay, placing responsibility on hospital administrations to meet the timeline set by the department.

The move reflects a broader push by the Punjab government to introduce digital systems across various segments of the province’s healthcare infrastructure, aimed at improving documentation accuracy, reducing delays and minimizing the potential for manual errors in sensitive legal and medical paperwork. Medico legal reports play a critical role in legal proceedings involving injuries, assaults and other cases requiring medical evidence, making the accuracy and traceability of these documents especially important, and officials say digitization is expected to improve record keeping and accountability across the province’s public hospital network going forward.
