More than 2.1 million smart electricity meters have been installed across Pakistan power distribution companies, according to a written reply submitted by the Ministry of Energy to the Senate. The figures show varying levels of smart meter deployment across distribution companies operating in different parts of the country. A total of 2,125,296 smart electricity meters have been installed across the distribution network, with Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) recording the highest number of installations. LESCO has installed 1,153,556 smart meters, accounting for more than half of the total reported installations. Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) follows with 348,135 meters, while Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has installed 229,719. Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has deployed 119,372 smart meters and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has installed 111,948. The figures were provided in response to a question in the Senate and provide a breakdown of smart meter deployment across the country power distribution network.

Other distribution companies have also begun deploying smart electricity meters, although their installation numbers are considerably lower than those recorded by the largest companies. Peshawar Electric Power Company (PESCO) has installed 60,685 smart meters, while K Electric has deployed 50,599. Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has installed 19,620 meters and Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has reported 13,432 installations. Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has installed 9,194 smart meters, followed by Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) with 7,659. Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO) has recorded the lowest number among the listed distribution companies, with 1,377 smart meters installed. The distribution of installations indicates that deployment levels differ significantly between power companies.

The installation of smart meters represents the adoption of digital metering technology within Pakistan electricity distribution network. Smart meters can provide more detailed and timely information about electricity consumption compared with conventional meters, allowing utilities to collect meter data through digital systems. Their deployment can also support more efficient monitoring of electricity usage and billing processes. However, the figures submitted to the Senate show that smart meter adoption remains uneven across different distribution companies, with LESCO accounting for the largest portion of the total installations. Other companies have reported substantially smaller numbers, indicating different levels of deployment across their respective service areas.

The Ministry of Energy figures provide a snapshot of the current scale of smart electricity meter installation across Pakistan. With more than 2.1 million meters already deployed, smart metering has become part of the country’s power distribution infrastructure across multiple companies. The figures also show that a significant portion of installations is concentrated within a few major distribution companies, particularly LESCO, GEPCO and MEPCO. The remaining companies have reported smaller deployment figures, including TESCO, HAZECO and QESCO. The data submitted to the Senate offers an overview of the progress of smart meter installation across the distribution network as Pakistan continues to introduce digital technologies into electricity metering and utility management.
