The Punjab Education Department has initiated a major step towards digitizing student records across public schools after identifying significant discrepancies in the existing data of nearly 1.7 million students. According to official directives, a large number of student entries were found to have missing or incorrect B-Form numbers within the School Information System, prompting immediate corrective measures to improve data integrity and transparency in the province’s education database. The move is part of a broader effort to modernize educational record management and ensure that every enrolled student is properly documented within a centralized digital system.
In response to these irregularities, the department has instructed all District Education Authorities and school heads to verify student information, particularly focusing on the accuracy of B-Form details before final data entry. Schools have been directed to take urgent steps to update and correct records, while also completing entries for students whose B-Form information is currently unavailable. Alongside this verification drive, authorities have also accelerated the process of assigning a Unique Student ID to each student, a measure aimed at strengthening traceability, reducing duplication, and improving the efficiency of student tracking across different academic levels in the public sector education system.
Officials stated that the digitisation initiative is expected to play a key role in enhancing transparency and improving administrative decision-making within the education system. By centralising student data in a structured digital format, the department aims to reduce inconsistencies that have previously affected reporting, enrolment monitoring, and resource allocation across schools. The introduction of a Unique Student ID is also expected to support long-term academic tracking, enabling better insights into student progression, attendance patterns, and institutional performance across districts in Punjab.
The department has also set a strict deadline of April 30, 2026, for the completion of record correction and data finalisation exercises across schools. Authorities have emphasised that timely compliance is necessary to ensure the smooth implementation of the digitised system and to avoid further discrepancies in the consolidated database. This initiative aligns with broader provincial efforts to integrate digital governance practices into public service delivery, particularly in education, where accurate data management is considered essential for planning, policy development, and improving overall system efficiency.
