The Punjab government has expanded its electric public transport network by launching electric bus services on 13 new routes across six districts, further advancing its plan to modernize public transportation and promote environmentally friendly mobility. The latest expansion covers Khanewal, Khushab, Bhakkar, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad, extending access to modern, affordable and sustainable transport beyond major urban centres. The initiative is part of the province’s broader strategy to reduce emissions, improve commuter convenience and strengthen public transport infrastructure across Punjab.

Under the expansion, electric buses have been deployed on multiple intercity and intra-city routes designed to serve local commuting needs. Khushab has received 15 buses operating on three routes, while Khanewal, Bhakkar, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad have each been provided with nine electric buses connecting key residential, commercial and educational areas. The services are expected to provide residents with cleaner, more comfortable and cost-effective transportation while encouraging greater adoption of electric mobility.

Punjab currently operates around 400 electric buses across 18 districts and continues to expand the fleet as part of its long-term green transport strategy. The provincial government has announced plans to induct an additional 1,500 electric buses, while hundreds more vehicles are expected to join the network in phases over the coming months. The expansion is aimed at improving regional connectivity, reducing traffic-related emissions and making modern public transport accessible to more communities across the province.

The continued rollout of electric buses reflects Punjab’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and cleaner transportation infrastructure. By extending services to smaller cities, towns and tehsils, the government hopes to reduce dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles while improving accessibility for commuters. The initiative also supports Pakistan’s broader environmental goals by promoting low-emission transport solutions and encouraging the transition toward a more sustainable public transport system.
