P@SHA and National CERT Sign Cybersecurity MoU to Strengthen Digital Resilience

P@SHA and National CERT have formalized a strategic cybersecurity partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 3, aimed at enhancing collaboration and bolstering Pakistan’s cyber defenses. This MoU represents a critical step in aligning national efforts to address rising cybersecurity challenges while enabling industry participation in shaping the digital security landscape. The agreement was signed by Dr. Haider Abbas (TI), Director General of National CERT, and Ali Hasani, Secretary General of P@SHA, during a ceremony attended by key representatives from the IT industry.

Senior figures from P@SHA’s leadership were present at the event, underlining the association’s commitment to cybersecurity advancement. Among them were Sajjad Syed (Chairman P@SHA), Mohammad Munaf (Chair Cybersecurity Committee), Dr. Sonia Saleem (Chair Diversity & Inclusion Committee), and Salman Dar (P@SHA CEC Member). Their presence demonstrated collective industry support for institutional cybersecurity initiatives, especially as Pakistan’s IT and ITeS sector continues to expand across global markets.

This partnership centers around a multi-dimensional approach to cybersecurity, focusing on coordinated awareness efforts, workforce capacity building, and the exchange of real-time cyber threat intelligence. The collaboration is designed to strengthen the country’s ability to prevent and respond to cyber threats through improved readiness and faster response cycles. It also includes provisions for industry consultation in cybersecurity policy formulation, further embedding private sector expertise into national digital security frameworks.

Key outcomes expected from the agreement include the establishment of a Joint Cybersecurity Working Group (JCWG), which will serve as a structured platform for ongoing dialogue and planning between P@SHA and National CERT. The MoU also supports the development of a National Cyber Crisis Response Database to document and analyze critical incidents, helping institutions develop more proactive and informed mitigation strategies.

By aligning on research and innovation efforts, both parties aim to identify technology gaps and support the development of homegrown cybersecurity solutions. This cooperation not only ensures alignment with international best practices but also encourages the adoption and promotion of cybersecurity products developed by Pakistani companies. It offers increased visibility and market access for local vendors, creating new commercial pathways for indigenous cybersecurity tools.

The agreement also encourages regional outreach and sector-specific capacity development programs, enabling industry professionals and institutions across Pakistan to benefit from consistent training and knowledge sharing. This model of engagement ensures cybersecurity progress is not limited to large enterprises or urban centers but is accessible nationwide.

This MoU marks an important development in uniting public and private sector capabilities to secure Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. With growing cyber threats and the accelerating pace of digital transformation, this collaboration between P@SHA and National CERT provides a solid foundation for a more resilient and secure digital ecosystem in Pakistan.
