Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), operating under Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, has taken a pivotal step toward establishing a credible and comprehensive national digital database for Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sector. The initiative aims to create an authoritative, centralized repository of industry information, designed to support evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning for both government and private sector stakeholders. By consolidating verified data from the entire IT ecosystem, PSEB intends to provide a single source of truth for policymaking, industry development, and long-term strategic growth.

As part of this effort, PSEB organized an IT Industry Stakeholder Consultation Session to onboard leading figures from across the sector. The session focused on finalizing the terms of reference, integrating feedback from industry participants, and establishing consensus on the critical data points required for the census. Stakeholders highlighted the importance of accurate and relevant data, which will be essential for creating a digital repository capable of informing policy, supporting investment decisions, and guiding sector-wide initiatives. The consultation emphasized collaborative engagement between government bodies and IT industry representatives to ensure the census reflects the realities of Pakistan’s diverse IT landscape.

The upcoming National IT Industry Census will form the foundation of a centralized National IT Industry Database. This digital repository is expected to serve multiple purposes, including enabling government agencies to track sector growth, identifying opportunities for skill development, and providing insights to investors and ecosystem partners. By standardizing and verifying industry data, PSEB aims to improve transparency, reduce information gaps, and enhance the overall effectiveness of strategic initiatives. The database will also allow for evidence-based planning and decision-making, supporting sustainable growth within the IT and ITeS sectors.

Officials involved in the initiative underlined that this project represents a long-term effort to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy. The census and accompanying database will provide policymakers and industry leaders with reliable insights into workforce distribution, company capabilities, export potential, and technological trends. With the digital repository in place, PSEB expects to facilitate better alignment between government programs, private sector needs, and investor interests, ultimately reinforcing Pakistan’s position in the global IT market. By fostering a data-driven approach to ecosystem development, the initiative also sets the stage for future innovation and growth within the sector.

This collaborative effort highlights PSEB’s commitment to leveraging technology and structured data to empower the IT industry. Stakeholders participating in the consultation expressed optimism that the census and national database will become vital tools for monitoring progress, shaping policies, and enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistan’s IT sector both locally and internationally.
