Pakistani researchers and scholars joined over 100 experts from China, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Malaysia, and Bangladesh in late April at the Jiangsu Talent Port Mansion in Nanjing for an international forum examining how artificial intelligence can be applied to advance global sustainability goals. The gathering, organized under the Center for Research Innovation and Development International Symposium and Experts Forum, was themed around fostering global cooperation through artificial intelligence innovation and sustainability, and brought together academics and practitioners working at the intersection of information technology, environmental science, and green development. Discussions at the forum focused on how cross-border research collaboration can accelerate green transformation, translate academic findings into practical solutions, and contribute to broader global efforts around carbon neutrality.

Among the Pakistani participants was Engineer Muhammad Waqas, holding a Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, who joined the proceedings online to present his research on compound climate risk. He noted that climate risk in Peshawar is intensifying due to the nonlinear interaction of heat and moisture deficit, a dynamic that is making extreme weather events both more frequent and more difficult to predict or manage. His participation illustrated how international academic platforms are providing Pakistani researchers with access to advanced tools and audiences that allow locally grounded climate challenges to be shared and examined on a global scale. Another Pakistani scholar, Ruqia Khaliq Dad Akbar, pursuing a master’s degree in English Language and Literature at Southeast University in Nanjing, presented research on how semantics can bridge linguistic structure and cultural meaning across different contexts, with her work pointing toward the integration of theoretical linguistics with computational methods for more sophisticated artificial intelligence-driven communication systems.

The forum also introduced several new initiatives aimed at supporting young innovators from emerging economies. Among them was the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Youth Entrepreneurship Incubator, accompanied by an international talent empowerment mechanism designed to assist young scholars and entrepreneurs from Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states including Pakistan, with the goal of helping translate academic research into commercially viable industries. Additionally, the preparatory launch of the Tower Bridge Global Research Academic Platform was unveiled, a platform intended to deepen international research collaboration and build institutional infrastructure for global talent networks, offering tangible benefits for countries like Pakistan that are working to expand their innovation capacity and integrate more meaningfully into the global research ecosystem.
