Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev toured the GITEX AI Central Asia and Caucasus 2026 international technology exhibition in Almaty on Monday, visiting one of the regional extensions of the global GITEX ecosystem, which stands as one of the world’s largest platforms dedicated to digital technologies and innovation. The visit covered a range of technology demonstrations spanning artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and digital finance, reflecting the Kazakh government’s focus on positioning the country as a regional leader in technology adoption and digital infrastructure development.
Among the highlights of the tour was President Tokayev’s inspection of the capabilities of the Al-Farabium supercomputer, which is already being applied to multiple projects across different sectors. One of its notable deployments is an artificial intelligence-powered, operator-free customer request system developed for Kazakhtelecom, the country’s national telecommunications operator. The system is designed to identify whether an incoming call is legitimate or fraudulent, route suspicious calls to an anti-fraud call center, help pinpoint sources for referral to law enforcement agencies, and deliver large-scale protection for the general public, all without requiring human operator intervention. The demonstration illustrated how Kazakhstan is actively deploying advanced computing infrastructure for practical, citizen-facing applications rather than keeping such capabilities confined to research settings.
The President was also briefed on a series of projects within Kazakhstan’s banking system focused on building a regulated, transparent, and scalable digital asset ecosystem. These projects include the development of a crypto hub infrastructure and plans to provide a full range of digital asset services to both individuals and businesses operating in the country. As part of the broader push to develop the digital asset market, the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, known as KASE, has announced plans to launch tokenized financial instruments, a development that would place Kazakhstan among the early movers in Central Asia in terms of integrating blockchain-based financial products into a regulated exchange environment. The exhibition visit follows President Tokayev’s earlier review of the Defense Ministry’s new Defense Tech initiative, signalling a sustained and wide-ranging engagement with technology policy at the highest levels of the Kazakh government.
