The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, has announced a significant milestone as its faculty members successfully secured multiple prestigious research grants under the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) Sindh Research Support Programme (SRSP) Call 2025-2026. The achievement reflects MUET’s sustained focus on impactful research, technological advancement, and academia-industry collaboration aimed at addressing real-world challenges of society and sustainable development across the province.

The awarded projects span five key thematic areas, each targeting critical needs of the region. Under the Water Theme, Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Gadhi has secured a grant of Rs. 2.5 million for the development and field demonstration of a solarized hybrid electrocoagulation-filtration system using indigenous adsorbents for safe drinking water supply in rural Sindh. The Energy Theme grant of Rs. 2.0 million has gone to Dr. Nayyar Hussain Mirjat for climate-smart modelling through swarm electrification to support sustainable rural energy access across Sindh province. In the Materials and Environmental Theme, Dr. Syeda Sara Hassan received Rs. 2.0 million for the fabrication of smart and innovative transition metal oxide-derived nanocomposite cartridge and polymer-modified polyethylene terephthalate membranes for efficient pesticide abatement and detection in water using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. The Computing and Subsurface Theme grant of Rs. 1.5 million was awarded to Dr. Ubedullah Ansari for a virtual reality-based interactive subsurface reservoir visualization and reverse estimation project aimed at precision drilling in the Lower Indus Basin. Rounding out the portfolio, the Biomedical and Health Theme saw Prof. Dr. Ahsan Ahmed Urani secure Rs. 1.6 million for the development of indigenous antimicrobial polyethylene terephthalate meshes for hernia repair.

Collectively, these grants represent a strong institutional push towards positioning MUET as a leading research-driven university in Pakistan, with projects that directly address water sustainability, renewable energy, environmental technologies, advanced materials, and digital innovation. The diversity of the research themes, ranging from rural water access to precision drilling and biomedical engineering, highlights the breadth of expertise within the MUET faculty and the university’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to both provincial and national development goals.

ORIC-MUET extended its congratulations to all Principal Investigators and their respective research teams for this achievement, while also acknowledging the role of SHEC in supporting quality research and innovation across universities of Sindh. The grants signal continued momentum for academic and applied research at MUET, with the institution bridging the gap between academia, industry, and community needs in Sindh.
