The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a 24/7 integrated emergency helpline designed to provide citizens with faster access to multiple emergency services through a single platform. The initiative makes KP the first province in Pakistan to introduce a unified emergency response system that connects callers with police, Rescue 1122, domestic violence support services, tourist assistance and emergency response teams for natural disasters. By consolidating multiple emergency services into one helpline, the government aims to improve coordination among agencies while reducing response times during critical situations.

The integrated platform has been developed to simplify emergency reporting by eliminating the need for citizens to remember multiple contact numbers for different departments. Instead, callers can access a centralized system that routes requests to the appropriate emergency service based on the nature of the incident. Officials believe the new framework will significantly enhance communication between first responders while ensuring that emergencies are handled more efficiently through improved inter-agency coordination.

The project entered its trial phase earlier this year, during which millions of calls were received, although authorities noted that a large number consisted of prank or non-emergency calls. Officials have urged the public to use the helpline responsibly so that emergency responders can prioritize individuals facing genuine crises. The platform also includes an SOS module designed to provide quicker access to assistance during emergencies and strengthen the province’s overall emergency response capabilities.

Authorities have indicated that the system will continue to evolve, with plans to integrate additional public service agencies in future phases. The initiative forms part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s broader digital governance strategy, which seeks to modernize public services through technology-driven solutions that improve accessibility, efficiency and transparency. By introducing a single, always-available emergency platform, the provincial government aims to strengthen public safety, enhance institutional coordination and provide citizens with faster and more reliable access to critical emergency services.
