Ignite – National Technology Fund has celebrated the graduation of 30 engineers from its Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Verification Post Graduate Diploma Programme, a specialised initiative aimed at developing Pakistan’s semiconductor workforce. Conducted in collaboration with FAST-NUCES Islamabad, the fully funded 10-month programme was designed to equip engineering graduates with practical expertise in integrated circuit design, VLSI verification, System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures and industry-standard semiconductor design tools. The initiative represents another step toward strengthening Pakistan’s capabilities in the global semiconductor ecosystem, where demand for highly skilled chip design professionals continues to grow.

The graduating batch comprised participants from more than 20 districts across Pakistan, reflecting the programme’s nationwide outreach. Ten women engineers successfully completed the diploma, contributing to greater gender diversity in Pakistan’s technology workforce. The programme also recorded a 100 percent completion rate, with more than 70 percent of graduates securing employment opportunities before completing their training. These outcomes highlight the growing industry demand for semiconductor talent and demonstrate the effectiveness of specialised, industry-focused technical education in preparing graduates for high-value careers.

Throughout the programme, participants received hands-on training in digital and mixed-signal IC design, advanced VLSI verification techniques, chip architecture, semiconductor fabrication concepts and research methodologies. By combining classroom instruction with practical exposure to professional design tools and real-world projects, the initiative sought to bridge the gap between academic education and industry requirements. The curriculum was developed to align with international semiconductor standards, enabling graduates to compete for opportunities in both local and global technology markets.

The graduation ceremony reflects Ignite’s broader efforts to build Pakistan’s high-tech workforce through targeted skills development programmes in emerging technologies. As artificial intelligence, 5G, autonomous systems and advanced computing continue to drive global demand for semiconductor innovation, initiatives focused on chip design and verification are becoming increasingly important for countries seeking to expand their participation in the global technology value chain. By investing in specialised talent development, Ignite aims to support the growth of Pakistan’s semiconductor ecosystem, encourage innovation and create new employment opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing technology sectors.
