The government of Balochistan has decided to introduce a digital monitoring system aimed at improving the attendance, performance, and supervision of field officers across the province, as part of broader efforts to strengthen governance and oversight of public sector operations. The decision was taken during a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, where officials reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects and discussed measures to enhance efficiency in implementation.
Under the proposed system, authorities plan to deploy a live, location based attendance mechanism that will allow real time verification of officers’ presence at their assigned postings. The initiative is expected to enable closer monitoring of development schemes while ensuring that officers remain actively engaged in field operations rather than being confined to administrative centres. Officials noted that the system would support better coordination between departments and improve the overall execution of projects by providing timely data on ground level activities. The move reflects an increasing reliance on digital tools within provincial administrations to address long standing challenges related to oversight and accountability.
During the meeting, departmental secretaries presented updates on various development initiatives, outlining key challenges and proposing solutions to accelerate progress. Chief Minister Bugti directed all relevant departments to ensure the completion of ongoing projects by June, emphasising the importance of field presence by district officers in achieving development targets. He underscored that officers must prioritise on ground engagement in their respective districts, highlighting that effective monitoring is essential for addressing public concerns and maintaining project timelines. The directive also included a warning that strict action would be taken against officers who remain absent from their duties for extended periods, reinforcing the government’s intent to enforce discipline within the administrative framework.
Officials believe that the introduction of the digital monitoring system will play a significant role in enhancing transparency and operational efficiency, particularly in a province where geographic challenges often complicate service delivery and project oversight. By integrating location based tracking with performance monitoring, the government aims to create a more responsive and accountable administrative structure. The initiative aligns with a broader trend of adopting digital governance mechanisms across Pakistan, where technology is increasingly being used to improve public sector performance and ensure that development initiatives translate into tangible outcomes for citizens.
