Ubisoft has officially confirmed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced for a July 9, 2026 release, bringing Edward Kenway and the golden age of piracy back to modern hardware as a full ground-up remake rather than a remaster, marking the first time in the franchise’s history that Ubisoft has rebuilt one of its own earlier entries from scratch. Ubisoft revealed Black Flag Resynced in April 2026, setting the July 9 launch date for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam, the Ubisoft Store, and the Epic Games Store, with pre-ordering granting access to the Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack at no additional cost, which includes an Edward costume, sword, and pistol. The project has been led by Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind Skull and Bones, with many of the original Black Flag developers returning to contribute to the remake.
Game Director Richard Knight, who previously worked on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Mirage, and Skull and Bones, has emphasised that Resynced is a full remake built from scratch on the modern Anvil engine first debuted in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with Ubisoft confirming the game contains zero code, assets, or files from the original Black Flag. The decision to remake Black Flag specifically, rather than pursue a new original entry, reflects both commercial pragmatism and creative conviction. Knight explained that the team wanted to remake Black Flag because it made sense in 2026, describing it as a game that plays well but has aged enough to inspire new ideas, with Ubisoft positioning the project as a safe bet in an industry currently cautious about risk, while also giving Ubisoft Singapore’s team the opportunity to bring one of the franchise’s most beloved entries to a generation of players who may never have experienced the original.
The remake delivers sharper movement for Edward Kenway, a denser and more detailed Havana, stealth mechanics with greater readability and patience, ship combat with more tactical depth, and a Caribbean world that loads less and breathes more than the original ever could on its target hardware. The contemporary Abstergo and Desmond Miles framing present in the original has been removed and replaced with new content called Rifts, hypothetical scenarios tied directly to Edward and his world, with the team’s stated goal being to keep players immersed in Edward’s story without the lengthy breaks required by the original’s modern-day sequences. The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 and is available both digitally and on physical disc, while the Deluxe Edition at $69.99 bundles the base game with two additional content packs. A Collector’s Edition has also been announced, featuring an Edward Kenway figurine, metal brooch, SteelBook, and cloth map for the most dedicated fans of the original.
