Leaked specifications for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 have surfaced ahead of what is expected to be a Samsung Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, pointing to six notable upgrades over the Galaxy Z Fold 7 without representing a complete overhaul of the lineup. The report, originating from Greek technology website Techmaniacs, claims the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be a meaningful but measured step forward, with improvements concentrated in areas where the Fold 7 drew the most criticism rather than a wholesale redesign of the product.

The most consequential upgrade, according to the leak, is the battery, which is tipped to grow from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh. This will reportedly be paired with a long-overdue jump in wired charging speed, with Samsung finally moving from 25W to 45W, a change that addresses one of the most persistent criticisms levelled at the Fold 7 despite its otherwise strong reception. On the processor side, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to run on the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset found in the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, keeping it current with the flagship tier. The design is also set to become slightly slimmer at 4.1mm when unfolded and marginally lighter at just over 210 grams, improvements that are modest but welcome in a category where bulk remains a recurring concern for buyers.

On the camera side, the main 200MP sensor and twin 10MP selfie cameras are expected to carry over unchanged from the Fold 7. The most notable camera upgrade is the ultra-wide, which is tipped to jump from 12MP to 50MP, a significant resolution increase that should improve detail in wide-angle shots, though real-world image quality gains will depend on the sensor size and processing behind the new lens. Taken together, the six upgrades, covering design, chipset, battery capacity, charging speed, and ultra-wide camera, represent a focused refinement rather than a radical departure, suggesting Samsung is consolidating the strong foundation laid by the Fold 7 rather than rethinking the formula.

The same report also includes details on the Galaxy Z Fold Wide, a new wide-format foldable that Samsung is expected to introduce alongside the Fold 8. The Fold Wide is said to feature both a wide and ultra-wide camera at 50MP each, with no telephoto lens included in the setup. It will carry a 4,800mAh battery with 45W charging support, weigh around 200 grams, and feature a 7.6-inch internal display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, a proportion that would give the device an appearance closer to a small tablet than a conventional book-fold smartphone. The wide format places Samsung in direct competition with a growing number of manufacturers exploring the same form factor, and positions the company ahead of Apple, which is also expected to pursue a similar wide-format foldable with the iPhone Fold later in 2026.
